How to restore your iPhone

Forgot iPhone Password is not responsible for any software problems that you might encounter. Please read this entire article before you attempt to restore your iPhone. Disregarding the instructions can have unexpected results including your phone being completely disabled. This procedure will also work if you forgot your iPod password.

If you have forgotten your iPhone 4 passcode and are not concerned with preserving the data stored on your device you might want to simply perform a full restore. This will allow you to use your iPhone again but it will require you to do two things. The first will be to put the iPhone into recovery mode. The second will be restoring to the most recent software version available. If you have something other than an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S you might have the option to restore to an earlier software version. This is usually desired by those who wish to jailbreak or unlock their iPhone. Remember that if you want to preserve your data, Forgot iPhone Password can help you to bypass your iPhone passcode.

The procedure for performing a full restore is simple and straightforward. First of all be sure that you have iTunes installed on your computer. PC and Mac both support this option and most common operating systems will support iTunes.

Once you have iTunes installed, connect your device to the computer. Follow these steps to put your device into DFU mode.

  1. Open iTunes
  2. Power off your iPhone.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your iPhone for two seconds.
  4. Continue holding the power button and press and hold the home button.
  5. Hold both buttons simultaneously for ten seconds.
  6. Release the power button and continue holding the home button.
  7. Your computer should detect the iPhone in recovery mode and prompt you to restore it.
  8. Click “Ok” and you will see another message about restoring and upgrading. Proceed.
  9. You might see a message stating the features added with the latest software update.
  10. Proceed and your computer should download the required files and upgrade your phone.

After the restore is complete your phone will be back to factory settings just like when it was new. All of your information will be gone and you will be asked to activate the phone with iTunes or through a Wi-Fi connection. I recommend using the iTunes option. Be sure that you have the phones SIM card from its native carrier installed. Without the correct SIM you might not be able to activate your phone.  If you are using the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S you will be asked to activate the phone by entering your account information into iTunes. Without the correct account information you might not be able to use the iPhone once it has been restored.

If you have the computer which was used to synchronize the device you can perform a “restore from backup” procedure. This can be accomplished by right clicking on your device in iTunes assuming you are using a PC. Once you right click you should see an option to do so. This will allow you to recover some of the information which was stored on your iPhone the last time it was synchronized.  That is assuming your software version is compatible with whatever is currently being supported by Apple.

If you choose to use a password again it is strongly recommended that you record it in a safe place so that you do not forget your iPhone passcode again. The same applies to anyone who forgot their iPod password.
